A student focused reading and networking event

Sunday 19 February 2012

Inaugural Event - 2 December 2011

For the Want of a Nail
Author, Richard Hamblyn
We almost lost the first Scribblers event for the want of a microphone battery. The equipment, having been tested and retested in advance, cunningly waited for the event to start before going into anaphylactic shock when finding itself reassigned from karaoke to literary endeavours.  Heartfelt thanks to the sound engineer who fixed the microphone and all our contributors on the night who persevered despite competition from the bar upstairs.

Author, Jonathan Kemp
The readings by lecturers, Richard Hamblyn and Jonathan Kemp, and students in an informal setting were met by an enthusiastic reception.

Our compere, Narayani
The evening would never have happened but for Narayani’s compering and the audience of students and staff whose loyal support and encouragement was greatly appreciated.  Lastly, a special thanks to the management of The College Arms who provided the venue free of charge.

The Birkbeck Scribblers runs without funding so depends on the generosity and support of everyone from publicans to publishers to keep it going.
